ACT THREE
FADE IN:
INT. VRAATH KEEP. KOTH’S QUARTERS – DAY
A small circular room at the base of VRAATH KEEP TOWER. A set of stone stairs leading to the UPPER TOWER wind along the southern walls of the room. Rubble from a hole in the ceiling is piled up under the stairs. The room is outfitted with a large desk, an overstuffed chair, and a large four polster bed.
The dwarf KRODORN is running his fingers along the edges of the walls, desk, and bed, looking for secret compartments. The elf wizard IROEL is earnestly studying the DRAGON-HEADED STAFF taken from KOTH earlier.
KRODORN
(looks at Iroel)
You’ve been studying that quite intently.
IROEL
Do you realize what this is?
Krodorn gives a slight shrug and resumes searching the room.
KRODORN
No idea.
IROEL
You were not with us for very long. Let me tell you.
INT. TOMB OF THE FORGOTTEN KING – NIGHT (FLASHBACK; 18th WEALSUN)
A heated battle between is taking place in a dark dungeon. A YUAN-TI SORCERER fires an acid orb at a AVARIS. Magic missiles fly though in the air. A NAGATHA is slashing furiously at the VALTHURNE.
IROEL (CONT’D, V.O.)
Weeks ago, when we faced XERON, a yuan-ti sorcerer who was robbing an ancient tomb. We discovered the sorcerer was after the weapons of legacy – powerful artifacts wielded by great heroes in the days of old…
Iroel and his companions are facing a wall depicting a magical painting that changes before their eyes. In the painting, a blond king wields a BLACK-BLADED SWORD, fighting off hobgoblins. Beside him is his QUEEN, a beautiful red haired woman wielding a dragon-headed staff sending bolts of lightning at a rampaging horde of goblinoids.
IROEL (CONT’D, V.O.)
We were able to kill Xeron…
Valthurne beheads Xeron with a powerful coup de grâce.
IROEL (CONT’D, V.O.)
…but unfortunately, one of the his accomplices escaped with the weapons of legacy….
EXT. WITCHWOOD – NIGHT (FLASHBACK; 18th WEALSUN)
The goblin MAGTOOTH running along a dark forest carrying a bulky sack. He is very nervous and trips often, but still clutching the sack with both hands tightly.
IROEL (CONT’D, V.O.)
…save for one – the longsword MERTHUVIAL, which Valhturne wields.
INT. TOMB OF THE FORGOTTEN KING – NIGHT (FLASHBACK; 18th WEALSUN)
Valthurne raises Merthuvial, a black-bladed longsword. The blade glows with a bright red light in his hands. The faint apparition of the KING THERON is seen in the background.
FADE OUT.
END FLASHBACK
INT. VRAATH KEEP. KOTH’S QUARTERS – DAY
IROEL (CONT’D)
We have been trying to locate where the other weapons of legacy have been taken. Our only clue was the mention of Vraath Keep by one of the sorcerer’s hostages. That is why we went here. It was only a coincidence that we were also sent by the town speaker of Drellin’s Ferry to investigate this very same place.
AVARIS (O.S.)
There are no coincidences. Only choices.
AVARIS, a bald dark skinned human monk, walks into the room.
KRODORN
Ah, dear monk. How goes our hostage?
AVARIS
Valthurne is tying him up. Once he recovers, we will be able to ask him questions. Although BAM has an unusual glint in his eye when he looks at our prisoner. He claims he has ways of making them talk. (shrugs) What of his staff then wizard? What can you tell us about it?
IROEL
(excitedly)
As I was saying. I believe this (raises up the dragon-headed staff) is BANRHIALORG. The queens staff! One of the weapons of legacy stolen from the tomb of the forgotten king!
